'Home away from home’ was my major project with which, I finished my Design degree at Goldsmiths University of London. This project focused on the personal objects that surround us and evoke a sense of home. In this case, I had a particular interest in the home-making process happening in our kitchens as I learnt from the research and the conversations I had with the participants in my project, that the sense of home often comes when dining together with our loved ones.
My aim with the project is, firstly as a designer I want my design to be used by other people, I want my final "tools" to be involved in other's home-making processes. Therefore, my goal was to make ceramic kitchen accessories with personalised illustrations based on the stories my friends told me about their own homes. I finished the projects with 5-5 plates and mugs all belonging to a close friend of mine repressing their own homes through my illustrations. The ceramics all found their new homes with my friends, in London, Cairo and Chester and being used daily as I wished.
